Building a Swimming Pool
Installing an in-ground swimming pool is a complicated process that requires a
good amount of time and dedication to ensure satisfying results. Make sure you
hire trustworthy contractors to perform the installation. The hardest steps are
in the beginning when the hole must be created and the steel walls must be
erected. These are typically tasks that will be carried out by your pool
contractor, but you should still be prepared for what will take place around
your home.
The first huge construction step involves digging a huge hole in your yard.
Large, heavy equipment will be used to accomplish this task so be prepared to
have your yard occupied with a backhoe and several large dump trucks. The
important thing to do before the equipment arrives is to move everything that
might be in their way. The more open their work space is, the more efficiently
they will be able to work.
The next step involves erecting the steel walls. It is crucial that this step be
taken seriously because these walls will be responsible for bracing the weight
of the concrete and the water. The size of the wall depends on the size of your
pool and in most cases a crane will be used to lower the walls into place. The
contractors will then fasten the walls together and weld them to the braces.
Once the walls are up, your contractors will generally begin to plumb the hole
with the drain and intake unit. This is also when the pool gets wired for
lighting and concrete is poured into the hole to form the shell of the pool. A
concrete truck will arrive and pump the concrete into the hole. Keep in mind, if
you were to purchase a fiberglass pool then all of these major construction
steps would be avoided, except for digging the hole of course.
The last steps involve installing the base of the pool and finishing the pool
off with a liner, tiling, and any additional wiring. As far as the base is
concerned, it can consist of vermiculite, mortar mix, sand and cement, or just
sand and it will be textured according to the specifics of your plan. Lastly,
all diving boards, slides and ladders are installed. The only thing left to do
after that is put the water in and swim!
