Hot Tub Maintenance
Maintenance is the act of periodic expenditure needed to preserve a property's
original status and prevent larger costs in the long run. In order to preserve
your hot tubs original status, regular hot tub maintenance is required. Hot tub
maintenance consists of daily, weekly, monthly and periodic routines that should
be followed accordingly.
On a daily basis is it recommended that you check the sanitizer and dosage as
required in the owner’s manual. You should also check the pH level and dosage as
required. At this time you should clean the water line as well. This can be done
with a waterline cleaning paste. Your daily tasks should only take you about
5-10 minutes to complete, but doing so will keep your investment in good shape
for years to come.
On a weekly basis you should oxidize your hot tub with a non chlorine shock.
Oxidizing destroys odors and wastes such as perspiration, cosmetics and body
oils. It also restores the sparkle in your water and increases the comfort
within the tub. You may want to consider purchasing an ozonator for your tub
because this device sprays ozone gas into your spa water which then kills off
bacteria in the water. This keeps the water extremely clean for longer periods
of time.
On a monthly basis you should check the water balance and clean the filter
cartridge. In order to check the water balance you will have to take a water
sample. Every two months it is recommended that you completely drain and refill
your tub with water to get rid of the build up of total dissolved solids.
When winter months start to approach it is very important that you winterize
your hot tub. Failure to do so could result in some very expensive damages to
your unit. Speak with you service professional about the best possible
winterization techniques. If you plan to shut your unit down during the winter
months, make sure that you are not leaving any water in your unit or in the
pipes because it will freeze, expand and crack your unit! Furthermore, it is
wise into invest in a winter cover to keep your hot tub in its best condition
during winter temperatures.
