Swimming Pool Repair
There are many ways to keep your pool in top-shape and prevent serious problems
from arising; however, problems are bound to arise no matter how hard you try to
prevent them. That’s just life! When it comes to pool repairs, most are best
left to a pool professional for proper diagnose and repair. However, there may
be some minor repairs that you can fix yourself, but use your judgment wisely
because a small problem can turn into a big problem if it is not fixed properly
the first time.
Common pool problems include a broken pool heater, a broken pool cover, a broken
pool filtration system and having a cracked surface. Other pool problems that
may not be as serious include swimming pool algae, burning eyes, chlorine smell,
cloudy pool water, and a stained pool. For the sake of this article, let us
focus our attention on the bigger problems and discuss a few solutions as well.
Serious problems, such as the pool heater failing to work, should be left to a
professional for proper diagnose. Usually when a pool heater isn’t working it
means that one of the safety features has engaged. Call a pool professional to
come out and take a look at it before any work is done. Likewise, you should
handle a broken filtration system in the same way. If the system has stopped
working then one of the safety features on the motor has probably engaged.
Chemical imbalances in the water can also cause such problems. Either way, it is
important to get the right diagnoses before any work is done.
If your pool cover isn’t working it could be due to several things. It may be
torn somewhere or it may be a mechanical error in which you should call someone
out to perform some maintenance on it. It may also be jammed or a safety feature
on the motor may be engaged. If your pool cover has a small rip in it then this
is something that you can fix yourself fairly easily. However, you should always
check with your manual to be safe. If the rip is too big then you may have to
replace the entire cover. Keep in mind, the fabric is easier to replace on
automatic covers.
Broken tiles and cracked surfaces are another common problem with pools. If the
pool tile is broken then it will need to be replaced by a pool professional,
unless however, you are handy with setting tiles yourself. If the surface is
cracked or flaking then the pool may need to be resurfaced with plaster. You
should have a pool professional come take a look at the surface and let you know
whether it can be patched or if it needs to be resurfaced. Patching is something
you can do on your own, but resurfacing your pool will require a professional.
Find out specifically whether the crack is structural or not, because a
structural crack may require you to replace the entire pool because no matter
how many times you repair a structural crack it will continue to form over and
over again.
